It's been a while

I haven't been updating. Guess I just felt that I didn't have anything good enough to post. That and I've been dealing with some really stupid crap while trying to sell my TV and PS3. Stuff that I should have checked before selling to that guy, but I just assumed that I'd be selling to someone that is actually on campus or goes to MSU since the website name is allMSU.

Anyway. I joined the Clay Club and the Photography Club. It's pretty fun. There's supposed to be another Photo Club get together on Sunday, but I don't know if I'll have any money for it. I did go to the downtown Lansing meeting, though. That was cool. I got to know some cool people. Then I went with three of them and hung out with them the rest of the night.

I need to get into gear and start making things for various sites to help me get more exposure and make some money. And for some reason, I want to learn how to make programs and I'm trying out Adobe Flex.

Not Doing a lot But Feeling Like I Need to

It's a weird kind of day.  I feel like I have to get a lot of things done today.  I don't really know what needs to be done this day, but I know there are many assignments to do in the near future.  Mid terms are also coming up soon!  Just next week, I know of one that needs to be done and I have an exam in my Monuments of Art class tomorrow.  So I should probably studying a bit more.

As far as art goes, I've been doing a few things here and there.  My art project for my drawing class didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it to.  I started to feel like this was a waste of time since it was just an observational thing.  It didn't have any bigger meaning to it, that I could tell.  This all came about near the end of it when I was wrapping up the two of the drawings and starting the last one.  Especially after I had read an interview of Barron Storey in Juxtapoz Arts and Culture Magazine.

That guy is pretty sweet.  It was an interview of him that I read in the magazine, and it was about his life.  He had started college but ended up dropping out.  He had worked at several companies and was drafting things for them, but ended up designing things and illustrating images.  And the drawings that were shown in the magazine were really nice.  The one I really liked was one that was made in pen and ink and was a portrait.  The value and tones were great and had lots of depth.

There was another interview that I really like in Juxtapoz.  His name is Conor Harrington.  He used to be a graffiti writer and now he does things that combine historical figures and spray paint in a dramatic way.  Graphical style is really interesting to me and is inspiring.  I'd like to do some stuff like that.

For this crazy looking one, I was just messing around in Photoshop trying to learn how people got those crazy cool lines of light and all.  Didn't turn out like I hoped but it brings out something else that's pretty interesting.  I'll keep trying to understand how to make those light lines though and get it at some point.

This one start out as a sketch of an idea that just popped into my head.  Maybe I should crop it so then it's rectangular and fits the rest of the image like where there are straight edges.  I had wanted to do some of those cool concentric circles that I had seen in some images that I saw floating around on the web but I ended up changing that because I wanted to do some crazy tonal stuff in Illustrator.

Recent events

I sold a portrait I quickly drew a couple of days ago and finally got paid for it last night.  Sadly, I don't have a way to document it or anything unless I ask my friend, Lindsey, to let me take a picture of it.  I made it with Char-kole and white chalky pastel stuff.  It was kinda fun to draw because the whole time I was thinking, "Wow, I'm actually going to get paid for doing this quick portrait."  Of course, it's only $5 and that'll get me barely more than a gallon of gas, but it's not that bad and I have to start somewhere.

I'm also trying this sort of business where I have to sell health products to people.  It's interesting.  There's a lot of stuff in this bottle that I got today.  Resveratrol, which is an extract from red wine or grapes, pomegranate, apple, and some other fruits and vegetables that are in this drink.  These bottles are pretty expensive for $50 each for 32 ounces, but if they are as good for a person as all these things they are saying, then it is a wise investment.  There are still more things that I'm going to find out about tomorrow at another meeting that they have.

Now, I have a lot of things on my plate.  There's a bunch of reading to do for my classes:
  1. a paper for one of my art history classes is due on Tuesday,
  2. an exam for that same class on Thursday,
  3. a drawing project with three drawings of one place but at different times so it shows a change over time is due on Tuesday,
  4. a bunch of reading that I have to do for my writing class, a revision for an essay for that same writing class,
  5. preparations for a bunch of short essays for work with an organization, You Vote, for that same writing class,
  6. the drawings that I'm doing for my drawing 2 class need to be awesome because I'm going to enter those three pieces into an art exhibition next month on the fifteenth,
  7. and make money to pay bills and rent.
So I've got a lot of things to do in a short time.  And I hope to be posting more sketches and finished pieces up here for you.  See you again soon.

My First Post

I'm new to this blogging thing.  I'm hoping to meet new people and show off some of the things that I make.  The things that I make are usually two dimensional pieces of art, but I hope to also get into three dimensional pieces such as sculptures.  And here are a couple of things to start it off.

Also, I would love to take donations to help me pay rent and food and art supplies and occasional craziness.
